On 7 September, the LUCIA Project hosted the first in-person cluster meeting with the two clusters it is part of: the “Prevention and early detection” and the “Understanding” clusters.
The clusters are meant to help the four mission objectives and take their name from them:
- Understanding of cancer
- Prevention and early detection
- Diagnosis and treatment
- Quality of life for patients and their families
The clusters were built with the scope of supporting the Mission objectives, creating added value and increasing the impact of EU funding. The areas to be addressed are: Data Management, Research & Innovation, Communication & Dissemination, Citizen Engagement and Addresseing Inequatlities.
A representant from HaDEA (European Health and Digital Executive Agency) opened the meeting. After an overview and a scientific update from all projects, these areas were addressed in the meeting along with the possible cooperation between projects. During the day, presentations about the UNCAN.eu and the ESOC4 intitations were also made.
For the Prevention Cluster, LUCIA is partnering with
- Mammoscreen – Innovative and safe microwave-based imaging technology to make breast cancer screening more accurate, inclusive and female-friendly
- Oncoscreen – A European “shield” against colorectal cancer based on novel, more precise and affordable risk-based screening
- Pancaid – PANcreatic CAncer Initial Detection via liquid biopsy
- Sanguine – Early Detection and Screening of Hematological Malignancies
- Thermobreast – An innovative non-contact and harmless screening modality set to change the course of breast cancer detection and patient monitoring
- Dioptra – Early dynamic screening for colorectal cancer via novel protein biomarkers reflecting biological initiation mechanisms
For the Understanding Cluster, which LUCIA leads, we are partnering with
- Melcaya – Novel health care strategies for melanoma in children, adolescents and young adults
- Genial – Understanding gene environment Interaction in alcohol-related hepatocellular carcinoma
- Discern – Uncovering the causes of renal, pancreatic, and colorectal cancer
- Elmumy – Elucidation of risk factors and health determinants associated with progression of monoclonal gammopathies to multiple myeloma
