On 6 March 2023, the LUCIA EU Project held the kick-off meeting of the “Understanding” Cancer Cluster within the EU Cancer Mission. This cluster gather five Horizon Europe projects:
LUCIA – Understanding Lung Cancer related risk factors and their Impact Assessment
MELCAYA – Novel health care strategies for melanoma in children, adolescents and young adults
GENIAL – Understanding gene environment Interaction in alcohol-related hepatocellular carcinoma
DISCERN – Uncovering the causes of renal, pancreatic, and colorectal cancer
ELMUNY – Elucidation of risk factors and health determinants associated with progression of monoclonal gammopathies to multiple myeloma
This kick-off started with an introduction by Professor Hossam Haick (LUCIA’s coordinator) and was followed by an introduction for the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).
The team discussed collaborative efforts within the cluster to boost cancer research across Europe, and to establish a common work plan. LUCIA, through its project coordinator Technion – Israel Institute of Technology partner, volunteered to serve as coordinator of the “Understanding” Cancer Cluster.
